MEDICARE, WORKCOVER + HEALTH FUND REBATES
In some cases, Exercise Physiology may be covered under Medicare or a HCF (check with your provider). Full fee paying sessions are also available if no cover is accessible.
The sessions which are covered by Medicare or a HCF must include one of the following chronic conditions. A ‘chronic’ condition is defined as one that has been or is likely to be present for 6 months or longer. Seventy percent of general practice visits are related to chronic conditions. These include a range of commonly preventable health conditions.
Chronic Conditions include:
Musculoskeletal Conditions: such as chronic injuries involving the lower back, neck, shoulders, knees, etc
Diabetes (Type 1 and 2)
Asthma
Cancer
Cardiovascular Disease
Obesity
Stroke
Arthritis
High Blood Pressure
Depression and Anxiety
Claiming via Medicare
To be eligible to receive the rebate through Medicare you need a referral to an Exercise Physiologist from your GP (under item number: 10953). Eligible patients are able to claim up to five (5) Medicare rebates for their CDM plan treatment per calendar year. Up to 5 sessions can be rebated through medicare once your GP has approved a "Health Care Plan “
The cost of the sessions are $100 and medicare will rebate $52.95.
Claiming via your HCF
Many Private health funds offer rebates for services provided by Exercise Physiologists.
Find out more from your private health fund, as some policies may offer ‘bonus’ payments or other rebates, dependant on the level, duration of cover and claim limits.
